"I long to infiltrate my whole mind and soul—and my home—with the real meaning of Easter, so that I can teach my children and grandchildren when they gather what really matters to me. I always look for opportunities to share my testimony of Christ, so I was so happy to meet with some dear friends, Laura and Craig Mortensen, who had been also feeling that same void, and had come up with a most unique solution."
"I will admit that I have been slow to put up Easter decorations in the past because bunnies and eggs don’t relate to my most sacred feelings about this day. I’ve wanted something more and now we have it. I’d like to get this Easter crèche for each of our grown children who are raising our grandchildren in such a difficult, secular world."
"I was so excited when I saw this Easter scene that I contacted Laura immediately! To be honest, I thought it was kind of expensive, but I decided I really wanted it for my home, for my grandchildren, and I would use it every year. I finally decided that I would buy it for my birthday. I contacted Laura again, drove to her home and purchased the set. Laura was so gracious to let me come to her home and pick it up. I was having a family party and wanted my grandchildren to be able to see and play with it. I was so excited about it, I took it to work and shared it with my co-workers. For the last two weeks, my grandchildren that I see almost daily, play with the set, carry around Jesus, and move the pieces around. The material the set is made of is child friendly, unbreakable, and so beautiful. I love my set, and am so glad I bought it. Thank you Laura!"
"Love, love, love this idea! I had been in search of something like this for a while, but the only ones I could find similar to this one had Jesus on top of the tomb with His arms stretched toward heaven. I prefer this Jesus figurine which has His arms outstretched to us, inviting us to come to Him."
"I had a dream about this very thing recently. I designed a whole Easter Creche in my mind--including the Garden of Gethsemane and the cross on Golgotha, as well as the tomb much like they have made it in this set. I was hoping that I could find some artist who could make this idea real. So glad to have finally found one!"
"Great Easter idea! And also rather than bunnies, how about lambs? In Primary, we now have the children glue white cotton balls onto lamb cut-outs to start an Easter tradition of the sacrificial Lamb."
"This is unique! Beautiful artistic depictions of all the characters. Soon after I got this, I used it for a lesson in Gospel Principles about the life of Christ. I had the nativity on one side of the table and this on the other side. Many commented on it and wondered where I got the tomb and figures. My grandchildren love it. They have moved the figures in and out of the tomb and roll the rock infront and to the side. I never worry a minute, infact I love that they play with it. It is a great investment!"
"Every spring since my children were small, I have loved hauling out my boxes of Easter eggs, baskets, and bunnies, home made or purchased at real expense. Yet these are not symbolic enough to translate into what is most meaningful about Easter: Christ atoned for us, died for us, and lives!
Laura Mortinsen's Easter Creche reminds us in a lovely three dimensional art form what happened over 2,000 years ago. She had insisted that though the creche pieces are not toys, she wanted children to be able to handle, touch and think about the Easter story. (The stone even rolls away from the tomb!) They are a visual testimony to what Christ did for us.
"What a delightful couple, I love them already! They have awakened us at a very important time in the history of this Earth. Now artists all over will be designing an Easter tradition for market with more meaning. Hopefully this will help draw a line between celebrating Spring and the real meaning of Easter."
